Onboarding 100 DC-area businesses by the end of 2026, building a thriving circular economy in the nation's capital.
A thriving Bitcoin circular economy starts with local merchants. Our goal is to onboard 100 businesses in the Washington, DC area to accept Bitcoin by the end of 2026—creating a network where Bitcoiners can spend and merchants can earn in sound money.
Whether a business is brand new to Bitcoin or already accepting it, we're here to help them succeed. Our approach combines hands-on onboarding with ongoing community support.
We work one-on-one with local businesses to help them start accepting Bitcoin. From choosing the right payment processor like Square to setting up a self-custody wallet, we guide merchants through every step of the process.
For businesses that have already enabled Bitcoin payments and appear on the BTC Map, we visit in person to introduce them to the local Bitcoin community, answer questions, and ensure they feel supported.
We provide merchants with high-quality "Bitcoin Accepted Here" signage to display in their windows and at checkout, helping attract Bitcoin-spending customers and signaling their participation in the circular economy.
Every merchant receives educational materials covering Bitcoin basics, transaction tips, and best practices—empowering them to confidently serve Bitcoin customers and manage their payments.
Meet the DC businesses leading the way toward a thriving local Bitcoin economy.
The Peruvian Brothers first accepted Bitcoin in 2013, but slow processing and low demand kept it from taking off. We reached out to help them modernize, enabling seamless BTC payments through their existing Square setup and providing custom signage for their shops. Now, it's never been easier for them to accept Bitcoin across all their restaurant locations.
It was freezing and windy at the Ballston Farmers Market, but we followed up with Abi’s Mexican Food to get them set up on Bitcoin. They took us up on the offer, so we grabbed some pupusas and tacos paid for entirely in sats.
After spotting Crepeaway on the Cash App map, we headed to their spot in the heart of the D.C. business district to support their move to Bitcoin. While the staff hadn't processed a BTC payment before, they were eager to try it out once we showed up to pay for our crepes in sats. We left them with "Bitcoin Accepted Here" signs for their windows and registers to ensure the downtown lunch crowd knows they can now skip the credit card and pay with BTC.
After spotting Pica Taco on the Cash App map, we reached out to support the owner who had already taken the initiative to turn on Bitcoin payments. We stopped by to welcome them into the local ecosystem and introduced their authentic Mexican spots to the broader Bitcoin community. To make it official, we provided "Bitcoin Accepted Here" signage in both English and Spanish!
After chatting with the owner of Lovely Macarons for several months, he decided to join DC’s Bitcoin circular economy to help address the high credit card fees that impact his bottom line. Seeing his neighbors at Banner Bee already accepting Bitcoin gave him the confidence to finally lean into the technology at his own pop-up stand. We helped him navigate the Square Bitcoin integration and provided new signage to signal this change to his customers. While the goal is to eventually drive more Bitcoin payments, having these colorful macarons available for satoshis is a great way to spark curiosity and education in the local market.
